eBay stator kit ?
I think it's reasonalble to see a number of failures considering that the newest of our bikes is atleast 10 years old. The OP bike is a 91 and if this is the first stator he is replacing then I would definately use OEM because it lasted 19 years. Besides, I consider these parts to be mission critical and would use the best I can afford and wait until I could.

I agree with Doug S. Most of the Stator problems are on older bikes, mine included. My HD Stator lasted 18 years and 50,000 miles or so. Thats on a bagger with radio and lights. The only reason I replaced the stock one was to upgrade to a 32 amp. Which is the one I just replaced last summer after the 18 years. I just replaced the stator with a HD OEM one. the Rotor was fine.

I only need a regulator right now but the plug is half pulled out on the inner primary. If I had to take it that far apart to fit the plug I was going to change it all and the leaks on the primary also.
MDodson Actually when my Stator went, it was the wires going to the plug that shorted out. They wore thru rubbing inside the primary. They were still mounted right but just wore thru from vibration. I asked a local Indy shop owner and he told me that he has seen that a lot. You might want to look at your wires. At first mine started over charging. Then it just went.
