My boss at work just "inherited" a '97 Police Road King. Since I don't have the shop manual and he has looked to me for maintenance, does anyone have:
1) Fluid capacities (engine/trans/primary)
2) Suggestions for checking the primary chain
Thanks!!!
-Carl
You will need to look at how to clean tappet screen also.
Something you need to do on the EVO.
Best advise is get the service Manuel you'll save your self a lot of problems.
Service can be different from one model to another.
Engine oil 3.5 quarts (20-50 motorcycle oil HD or ? ) Trans oil 22 oz I use Mobil 1 75W-90 syn gear lube In the primary I use 32 oz of Rev-tec BT primary lube or HD equiv The oil filter HD P/N is 63796-77 I use Drag Spec P/N DS 275203 Do not put any more than 3.5 quarts of engine oil in or it will puke out the A/C breather Good luck !
At it's tightest spot! You will need to turn the engine to check you don't just happen to be at the slackest spot and tighten it too much. Slack can vary around the length of the chain.
Fluid capacities can vary from bike to bike. My primary (when fully drained) will take a lot more oil than the manual states to bring it up to the recommended level on the clutch basket. It takes four quarts to fill my engine to the recommended level on the stick. And the trans is about 4 ounces above their recommends to get to the correct level. I've done almost every fluid change on my bike, with the exception of 'on the road' changes. And I've never had issues with overfilling/underfilling when topped off to recommended levels. The bike needs to be 'upright' and 'level' to check some fluids, and on the Jiffy Stand for the rest.
