I have the same 1989 engine that has been puking for two years when it sits for a while. I am getting ready to order the repair manual so that I can find this spring and ball that seems to be the problem

The factory shop manual should be the first thing you buy for the bike. Two years is kinda long to wait on that, but better late than never.

(It's under a plug on the oil pump. Careful taking the plug off without messing it up. Giant screwdriver is a no-no, unless you like a messed up plug.)

When myself and the wife went for a 2 week trip over to italy and I came back and jumped on it never did it. So just a thought is it the ball or the seat ? The mechanic that redid the crank and reassembled the cases last winter did take the oil pump apart and said everything looked fine and in spec but then again that was 8000 miles ago.

Dr, yeah I should have bought a service manual like most riders....but I just love to ride, so I get on the dirty bastard that's leaking and noisy to get my jollies! I have let all my bikes suffer while I have enjoyed every mile of them and taken them to the edge of hell lol. Unfortunatly this bike I tried to do all of the above, but then It dawned on Me that it was a bike that My uncle left Me and I need to take care of Her.....so now it's time to make her an honest harley. I appreciate all the post's and help all of you offer.

Jack
