Default Now no oil pressure..

Well I think I fixed the leaking oil problem on my 94 flhtp I had a partially pluged vent line, and no spacer on the breather gear, the cam seal was brittle, so i took the nose cone and oil pump off and cleaned and checked all tolerances, double checked everything before and during assembly ...drained what little oil was left in system and new filter...got it started and oil light now stays on and it is noisy as can be...I am assuming //hoping the noise is the lifters . because of the low pressure...but why no pressure...im ready to ....buy...a ....suzuki...no cant do it but I am sure i did every thing by the book, any ideas or what I can do...I am having riders withdrawl..

Its hard not to suspect something in assembly, when you fix one trouble and end up with another, it seems that the cleared hose would have been all you needed to do, and now there are other issues. I would say re-trace your steps, easy to be looking at the finish without paying attention to what you need to do before that. Gotten ahead of myself more than once. Slow down, do it once, do it right. my .02.

Sometimes the pump simply will not draw oil into itself after disassembly and needs to be "primed" and that can happen even when the tank/oil is above the pump.

There are 2 plugs on top of the pump. Remove the one most inboard and take out the light spring and ball. Then fill that hole with oil, let oil run down and fill it again. Replace the ball, spring and plug. Turn the engine over with the starter with the spark plugs removed and watch for the oil light to go out. You may have to repeat that twice but when the light will go out at starter speed, reinstall the plugs and start it up.

Another thing that you might watch is if you used a circlip without the ears on the gear inside the nose cone driving the oil pump the key can work it's way out and the oil pump will not turn. the easiest way to check this is to pull the cover off the oil pump and roll the motor over to make sure the gears turn. Also on some pumps there are timing marks on the gears inside the pump make sure these are lined up so they match. But if you didn't prime the pump I suspect this will be the problem. I leave the sending unit out and roll the engine over with the plugs out after priming to make sure I have oil and not wondering if the oil light is working or not.

Next time you remove the pump, pack it full of petroleum jelly at assembly. This will prime it and create the low pressure in the intake hose to start oil flow. Pet. jelly will disolve in the engine oil and not plug anything else up. (Screens, lifters, etc.)
