Default Spongy Frontend ???

I have an 85 FXRP and the front end is stock and has been completely rebuilt. The amount of travel up and down seems kinda of excessive. I would like the front end to be more stiff any ideas ? If I cut a couple of pieces of PVC pipe and put them on top of the springs would that simply decrease the spongyness by putting more tension on the springs ?
Thanks for your feedback.

Progressive springs stopped the dive on my FXLR. Tried heavier oil and the spacers and it didn't help at all.

Welcome to HDF.

You mention two contradictory things there! Long fork travel gives (or should!) good riding comfort and lets the front wheel manage potholes and bumps. Stiffer springs will give a stiffer ride which may not be so comfortable.

You could improve the ride of your bike by replacing your current springs with a new pair, for two reasons. Modern springs are superior to the 25 year old ones in your bike and will give you a better ride. Also if you fit fresh springs matched to your weight you will get a further benefit.

So my suggestion is buy a new pair of custom springs from a suspension specialist like HDF sponsor Motorcycle Metal. If you would really like to improve your forks, also consider getting a set of Emulators, which will improve fork damping.

Yeah I supposed new springs would be the best place to start. I was just thinking that a couple of PVC plugs would be a cheap fix.
Thanks Guys.

Install Progressive standard height fork springs. Best front end bang for the buck.
