Make sure that the face of the socket is flat, not tapered or rounded. You get a better grip on that big nut that way.
Hatch.
Another good tip thankyou.
Just came in from garage and now realize the 1-7/8 socket I was going to cut down is a 12 pt and not a 6 pt so I will see if I can find a 6 pt.
I bought a tool for this on ebay. its a very deep socket and includes a round sleeve that goes over the mainshaft, to prevent the tool from slipping sideways off the nut. seems it was about $35.
For anyone who has replaced the stock pulley (32T) with a 30 tooth pulley, did you have to change the belt? I read on the Twinkie forum that a shorter belt was required, just wondering if there's enough room to adjust it tight on an EVO.
Not meaning to hi-jack, seemed like it related to front pulley removal.

With a new same tooth belt it puts the axle about 1/16" from bottoming out with a good belt adjustment, I took a carbide bit and removed some material in the swing arm for some future adjustments but it is ok without any grinding. I would think that a used belt would need some clearancing because of some stretch.

Hey thanks Bagger! LOL, I scan the new posts when I dry up the material on the EVO forum and just happened to run across this one! I try my best to stay away from: chaps, fingerless gloves, poser, biker, and union threads! It just ain't worth the brain cells!
Monster tool is made , used a 6 pt 1" drive. Question this winter I will be changing the back tire and normally what I do is just push the axle through and drop the wheel , reason is I hate trying to get wheel adjusted evenly. I have the front sprocket nut off and sprocket will come off if I loosen belt which I don't want to do but in the same note I plan on pulling the tranny out for inspection which means tapping mainshaft/tranny through, see where I'm goign with this? So would I be better off to drop rear wheel or tap main shaft through sprocket?
