Cool evo cam change

I have a 97 flh standard. I would like to put an andrews cam in and it looks fairly simple the only thing I'm concerned with is how do you keep the lifters from falling into the casing while doing a cam change if I'm not changing the lifters. I have worked on cars and trucks for a long time but never did a cam change in a bike. Could someone out there give me a pointer or two. putting in a andrews ev27 with ez install pushrods.

I assume you're cutting your old pushrods out. Take your lifter blocks off and pull the lifters out.

What Mike T said. But you can get magnets to hold them up just don't let them fall. Also swap the timing gears so you don't have to worry about a "new" noise that wasn't there before. Also get the INA cam bearing out while your in there and replace it with the torrington.

+1 to that. It is not impossible to hold them up by hand if you're careful. I had to go into mine a second time because I foolishly thought that the gear lash measurement on the Andrews gear was "close enough". Well, it wasn't and so I went back in and changed to the stock sprocket, no more gear whine!

Never thought to use a magnet, good idea, I used a stiff piano wire bend in the shape of a U and stuck it in the oil holes from the top. If you have problems it'll be from the rear cam lobes.

How much mileage do you have on your lifters? Might be a good idea to swap them out while you're in there. I defer to the experts on this.

I held mine up with a thin ally plate that i made up, EV13 in mine just a few weeks back. Although i may pull it again and put the original gear on it as the gear lash was pretty close but not perfect

Don't forget to get all that power you'll need to jet up the carb. If you don't already have an upgrade air filter or pipes you may not gain much. It's like a package deal when you get started.

Hope it all goes well. Have fun.
