Default ATF Fluid

I have 1/2 a quart of B&M Trick shift in my shop and 3 quarts of TCI Max Shift ATF
has anyone run this in their primary or should I order more B&M? Thinking about running Ford ATF cause it is a little thicker (but not too thick).

This gets brought up every so often. I myself have started a thread about it. I switched to the Ford ATF and have been thrilled to death with the results. Clutch works better than ever and that first morning clunk is gone. I recommend it.

I believe I read your thread the other day. I gotta dump my primary and check my ring gear and starter clutch. I will go with the Ford ATF. I had some ATF from Summit left over when I re-worked a TH-700 but think I will keep it for my son's chevy. See you are from Mechanicsville, I am originally from the South end of 360 (Danville, VA) Thanks for the tip. Learning alot from ya'll on these Evos. I've owned an old (80) Ironhead 1000 since 95 and gave it to my wife when I upgraded to the one I have now. So I am starting over with my wrenching. (not used to a crankcase, primary and a tranny lol)

I use Mobil 1 ATF and am very pleased. I have a feeling it doesn't matter what ATF you use.

Well, two days ago I put Mobil 1 ATF 220 to my primary (FLHTC `88) and it showed a big change. Less nioses from the transmission, easier shifting and way better feel on the clutch lever. That "clunk" sound when I shift to 1st gear isn`t so loud any more.

For what it's worth we use Castrol Type VI ATF fluid.

Just wondering if anyone exerienced a leak when switching to ATF?

I need to change my primary oil but that stuff is so thin I'm affraid it might make a small weep type leak into a pubble on the floor.

Thanks

I know all the newer mustangs I've had with a t-5 manual trans use atf instead of gear oil. There's a reason they do that, mostly for when it's cold. The fluid is thinner so it gets moving around faster. Easier shifting when cold. I have driven one that had hard shifting problems, and it turned out that someone had filled it with gear lube instead. I changed it to atf and the shifting was day and night. I could see where the thinner fluid would help out shifting since it flow easier.

I for one have not yet had a primary leak. And in my particular case I run that clear see threw primary cover. In order to run that cover I used a standard Shovelhead primary cover gasket in place of the stock Evo disc. Now, if a Shovelhead gasket isn't leaking, I'm pretty sure NOTHING will.
