Default 93 FLSTF Tuning question

I have a 93 Fatboy with a 1340 EVO. Recently put on a SE Hi Flow breather kit, 48 slow jet, 170 main, 1988 XLH needle new accelerator pump, new diaphram, new spring, new Hooker exhaust and drilled out the slide. After also putting on a new 5.5 gallon stretched tank I was road ready.

After initial tuning and getting it dialed in and running good, I have noticed that I'm only getting 36 MPG after the initial tank of fuel.

Could it be that I have to small of a slow jet and go back and try a 45? I feel the 170 did much better on the top end than a 165 and I'm running really well thru the middle and the low end.

I know that modifying the carb will drop my MPG's a little bit but didn't expect it to go down to 36 MPG.

My ride is set up so I can take long trips and got the tank for a better overall distance range (and looks of course), would anyone have any suggestions?

I do plan on putting in a EV27 cam here soon, but would like to sort this issue out first and get back to at least the mid 40's in MPG.

Thanks for the input.

From people I've talked to, 36 mpg is about average with a carbed, good running, not lean, bike.

I have never actually heard a overall MPG for tuned rides, but my last EVO had the same setup and so does my buddies RK and both were around 43-44 MPG's.

45 with the Sportster needle will work for a stock type engine, The Sportster needle is adding fuel and a good setup with stock low speed jets. The 48 is too big and loosing your mpg, will still be too big for the cam change in the future.

+1 to what 97 said. seems like I recall that stock on the CV was a 42 slow jet. bumping up to 45 should be plenty. Since that is generally the most used part of the fuel circuit, that's where your MPG went.

Thanks I'm loving the DIY part of doing carbs. I have always had someone else do it but decided to dive in on my own

Yep the CVs are pretty easy to deal with. I'm just thankful that I moved on from 4 carbed metrics.

They are fun, and I hear the 4 carb metrics are a pain

46, 175 is what I run all stock engines, I'm not a fan of enlarging the slide hole either, with the higher vaccum of the stock camshaft makes that slide open much too soon, just my opinion tho,
