HD killing the EVO
Yes. You are right. There are two different countries now. I said Czechoslovakia because Skoda cars (110, 120) which use this oil filter were manufactured in Czechoslovakia back then, before separation.
Skoda was manufacturing very good rally cars back in 70`s and 80`s.
Does anyone remember their motorcycles called JAWA and/or CZ? Very similar bikes, just different names. They were very popular here in Europe. I had couple of them, 175ccm `59, 250ccm`62 and 350ccm `91 Jawa TS350 TwinSport. Twin cylinder-double problems. Those bikes still exist in UK, sometimes You can find them on Ebay pretty cheap.
OffTopic, isn`t?
Friends of mine had CZs, including a 250 ISDT bike, probably the noisiest bike I have ever experienced. Staggeringly fast, horrendous fuel consumption, but very impressive!
Another off-topic photo - we saw these two 1949 Hurikan overhead cam singles, 350 with 500 behind, in a small private museum in Ceske Budejovice, also this 1949 250 CZ racing twin.
More interesting than oil filters!
I can remember early 90's going to the dealer and finding no 60 wt oil for my Shovel. My 84 had the spin-on filter in frt of the rear tire, but my 74 had the drop in cnstr type in the oil tank. You couldn't buy THOSE from HD in the late 80's.
Where HAVE all the Evo's gone?
Really? The MOCO still manufacturers and sells brand new EVO crate motors. I bought one outright about a year ago, no core exchange or anything. The Evo will be around a good long time . . .

I agree that the Evo will be around. In fact, I'm suprised that the factory still makes them available. Think about it...the Evo went out of production for new bikes in 1999, but you can still buy the engine. The shovel ceased in '84...could you buy a shovel from the factory 10 or eleven years later? Or even a year later? Hell, no! What if you wanted a new panhead engine from the factory in, say, 1976? Crazy talk! You get the idea.
The price for the base engine has gone up $300 from its original $2995 price, but I'm glad they're still available. This is unprecedented for H-D. I'm thinking of ordering one just to have for the future.
