yeah, They are always surprised or "it must of just started"....Few years ago I took a 3 hour ride to pick up a FXSTC and the base gasket was bubbling. I distinctly told him before I went that I wanted/expected a dry bike and sure enough he started to tell me that is must of just started, until I showed him all the oil spots in his garage. He had the bike real clean too.
Good luck with it, I've had two of them, 99 & 94, IMHO the FXSTC is the nicest handling softail and looks good without a ton of mods.

D
Your story sounds just like mine. The oil was bubbling out of the base and the gas leak looked like the bottom of a leaky faucet and was very dirty so it obviously did not just start.
Anyway I plan to keep the bike clean and simple. It will suite my type of riding.
The very important question is "did you fall in love?"
If yes, then buy it!
This is a love affair.
I have always loved fxstc's and could fall myself, but I try not to flirt, my blackgirl gets pissed!
lol. I was just helpin a buddy get his bikes out of the dining room for the spring (yes i said the dining room, its cold in the garage) & we went for a ride. Well the one I rode I found out that afternoon was FOR SALE, he was in a bit of a money crunch. I made a bit of an uneducated decision lookin back when I bought it as it hasnt been trouble free, but I think Im over the learning curve (due largely to a lot of reading here!!!) & wouldnt change a thing. Shes mine & very reliable (now).
looking back at the first ride I wonder who was flirting with whom....
Horrible pic but here she is. Bags and shield are gone. Going to make it mine with a good amount of changes. Will get some better pics of the updates as I go.

Nice looking bike '06..
Buying used is usally a crap shoot, unless you're buying from a guy who keeps his bikes in the Dining room!
