Default another 5 speed question

alright... i pulled the tranny shaft race, and took off the 32T pulley

it's a 91, and all that was on there was the allen screw, large hex nut, pulley, then spacer that sits inside the seal on top of the quad seal

.... seals are fine, no leaks

but just wanted to replace the pulley because teeth were all grimy and worn.... spacer was all rusted a bit and had some light surface grooves on it

....but everwhere i look all i find is the setup for what appears to be for the 92 and later, but with an 85D classification (#40210-85D) ....this includes everything above with the addition of a locking plate and an additional allen screw

can i go with this set, anyone know? ....it seems like an upgrade to the original setup

Thats the upgrade for the drive sprocket. Around 125 bucks if I remember. Has a sprocket, spacer, seal, flat lock plate, & small cap screw.

I just replaced my sprocket and reused the original one screw lock. Was cheaper and less work.

that's what i figured, v-twin

was just reading that they upgraded it because those nuts are notorious for coming loose which moves the spacer away from the quad seal, causing a leak

whole kit is 195.00 from zanottis...yikes

jpcycles sells a BDL kit for about 125.00, but read where because they're so light they damage easily at around 30k

I've worked on bikes with the plate lock and they can work loose also. Just depends on how the rider rides.

Be aware that some of the replacement sprockets do not have both tapped holes for the small lock screw. They are in different locations. So if you just go the sprocket route check that it has both drilled and tapped holes.

look very closely at the main gear's splines where they match up with the pulley splines, if they are worn at all replace the main gear too. if there is any slop in the mating spline surface the pulley won't last long. the new pulley is 1/4 inch wider on it's splines so new spacer and seal is necessary.

Good point bagga. If the pulley/sprocket has the .415 offset old spacer can still be used.

.415 offset no need for newer spacer. J P Cycles has them. Should be able to get at a Indy parts guy also.

JP has the stock replacement with the .415 offset for like 45.00 and a new spacer from Jims.... stock spacer has some surface rust and some light surface grooves in it, so would be good to replace it i suppose

...much cheaper to go that route like you say, v-twin, if i don't have to do the whole upgrade considering the seals are fine
