i have a 80in Evo that has this knocking sound at about 2000 rpm. It gets louder when warmed up. I did check the primary chain and adjusted that and it still has that same problem. It not to much of a vibrating problem though the knocking sound can get irritating. Need advice and knowledge. Thanks
Irritating is not a word I would use! Any form of knocking is a worrying sign that there is something seriously wrong, so you really shouldn't be riding until it is fixed, or at least know what is causing the knocking. One possibility is the front engine rubber mount is shot, which is being optimistic as it is easy and cheap to fix. But we really need some better info on the nature of this knock and whereabouts it is coming from.
Have you got a nearby dealer or indy who can give an opinion? A trained ear on the spot is worth a thousand distant experts on the internet!
I did take it to a dealer for him to test ride it,and even he wasn't sure.He told me to check my primary chain and thought it could also be my Clutch. So i thought i would check here to see other opinions. Thanks
This may not help you're problem. But I have a knock/rattle at 1800 rpm. Turns out my highway pegs rattle at 1800 rpm or I should say the left one. Do you have add on like mine, give some details of your ride?
i had a 80"shovel that knocked..everyone i knew and all the local bike shops said it was supposed to sound like that.. i decided to take it apart..a wristpin retainer was missing, the pin wore into the cylinder, and the rod had an inch of play..its not that hard to take the top end off,i would do a good inspection..if i had sooner it might of cost me $2k less
i had a top motor mount come loose & made it sound like a piston was about to come through the tank but sense your looking in the primary area im guessing its a bottom end noise. That being said the 1st thing id do is check everything possible for being tight.
I told my son once, I dont wash the bike to get it clean, I wash it to go over it & see whats got loose again!!!
