if anyone has had this happen in any motor,to where it screwed up the bore the bearing presses into,XL to TC,we`ve repaired alot of them better than new, dont have to get new cases
I'm guessing that the cam bearing is what exploded on mine this past Sat. 98 FLHRCI with 40K. I really didn't need this to happen, timing belt in my truck went Fri. night, now this.
Oh boy!

mine too. pieces of bearing everywhere. pics in my profile of rebuild
Dam - that is quite the rebuild, did the bearing hose up the pistons and case or did you just strip it down that far to be sure ? what mods did you throw in during your rebuild ?
I am increasingly concerned that my 98 FLHRCI with 40K+ could be headed down this path.....

onanultra - I am in Lewisberry near Ski Roundtop, LMK if you need a hand working on your RK, mine has the same mileage and may be a ticking time bomb as well, the hands on experience may help me in my undertaking of my own.
hi mayfly. yeah, we tore it right down to be sure. parts of the bearing were imbedded in the breather and scattered through the cam chest so was taking no chances. i'm stepping up to an ev27 cam and having the heads done. andrews lifters are also there and the new steel breather in place of the plastic one. from what i've heard the bad ana bearing started in the 1992 model and continued on for all the rest of the evolutions. the ana bearing has spacers between each roller which causes early failure while the torrington has a full roller system. i wish i'd caught mine sooner. you can go in through the nose cone for minimal teardown and use a bearing puller to get the old one out. this whole procedure is about 3- 5 hours and the bearing is about 8 bucks
