My 99 Softail Custom had the bad bearing. I changed it at 23,000 miles. I am not sure but I think they quit using the Torrington bearing back in the early 80's. I used Harley screaming eagle adjustable push rods and have had no problems with them. I have 60,000 on it now. I have had no gasket leaks anywhere and did not want to take the top off just to replace the cam bearing. If you are going to change the cam I would sure change the bearing. I think they were only like $8.00. If you buy the tools to do it you can always sell them later. I bought used remove and install tools which worked just fine.

The Torrington B-138 was used in Evos until the early `90s...

You are right. I should have said 90's, not 80's. Shovels all had Torrington bearings. And so did early EVO's.
