Just opened primary as my alternator went dead and I am wondering about starter drive gear tooths. Edges are kinda grinded off, is it OK like that or the gear is worn out? Here`s a picture: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_Z...0/DSCN7664.JPG
Can't see anything wrong there! If there was a problem and the teeth were being ground down the mess inside the chaincase would be ugly and the oil filthy. If oil is reasonably clean and there are no metal particles then all is well.
I think you are referring to the bevel on the end of the tooth...that is supposed to be there to help it engage...here is a pic of a new one to compare.
