Here's my problem. I "know" I should get a good set of lifters. As I'm sure so does the original poster of this thread, but I just feel like us Harley guys have been getting banged in the A$$ for last the last 20 years by manufactures. A lifter is not a terribly complicated part and I just feel like a sucker paying 50 bucks a piece when state of the art manufactures like Lunati charge a lot less than 200 dollars for all 16 roller lifters. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LUNAT...Q5fAccessories
Thats why I was hoping some one might have used them, 'cause your right..... blow one and its a lot more than 200 bucks.
I've heard that some guys use them. I would have to know a little about the specs of the lifter, and compare them to stock Harley lifter. They are designed for car use, but I doubt that the mfgr states any info in reference to valve spring pressure. And dimension of the housing. I guess you could measure that yourself after you bought them. I would think if they were the best choice you would hear more about them being used.,,
This lifter topic comes up in the Twinkee section with automotive lifters being used in the TC's, can't go into any details but I know they are being used in the Twinkee The problem is no automotive lifter made for the Evo so we will have to continue to take it the butt when going lifter shopping.
It comes down to a lifter being a vital part of the Evo and always a mystery on which one to buy, I installed lifters over the winter and couldn't over ride my cheap a$$ to purchase a set of $200 lifters as Bikerlaw is going through, problem is I got what I paid for and now I will end up buying a set of $200 lifters that will make my picky a$$ happy. Problem is I know better but the cheap ba$tard side over rules at time and roll the dice.
I also saw those 50 dollar sets of Street Performers on ebay. I did not swap my lifters when I did my EV27 cam and am still running the stockers. They are still working fine but I realize its just a matter of time till one or more of them finally starts to tick, but I was on a budget at the time. I have been looking at those Street Performers and I am also weary when I see 50 bucks, but like you don't want to spend 200 clams if I don't have too. The seller "says" Made in USA, but who knows if they really are. I would also would love to hear from anyone who has actually used them.
I did and they were fine, well made and still working.
Uncle G. can speak from experience that the cost of a set of lifters pales in comparison with the cost of an engine rebuild. When they go, they go, and by the time you can hear the knocking, it's usually too late.
Don`t go cheap on lifters. If you don`t have a lot of miles on the lifters, just replace the noisy one (as long you are currently running quality lifters). A set of quality lifters will cost 200 bucks, no way around it...
Hell, a tank of gas is 20 bucks...
Plenty of guys have bought el cheapo lifters and had no problems, that is until they suddenly heard the loud ticking, followed by the ca-ching sound of the cash register.
