My bike has had a weird condition. Its had it since I have owned it and I have no idea what it is. Every once in a while (like once every 3 or 4 months), the blinkers will start to flash in a goofy way while I am riding. It doesn't do it very often at all, and its only done it a cruising speeds. What will happen is the turn signals will start flashing like the hazards are on but instead of all 4 flashing at the same time they will switch from left to right, over and over again till I hit the turn signal buttons. Then they go back to normal. Its very rare, like I said, but it will do it every so often. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing????
Mine will occasionally start flashing while the bike is sitting there at an idle. I push either button and it'll stop and go back to normal operation. I'd guess it's just a faulty module and in my case it doesn't bother me but in your case I could see where it might get other drivers freaked out...
I just had to get mine checked out for the lights going crazy on me as well. The hazards would flash rapidly and dim, come to find out there is a wiring harness mounted under my back tire that came lose and depending on how I hit a bump, it would hit the back tire and go into a freak out mode.
A little something I found on my 91 flhs.... the sockets are grounded to the housings... which caused my module to take a puke. Also corroded dielectric grease in the sockets... Fix was clean sockets and wire ground to the housings.
I also did a voltage drop test, and found that I was loosing 2 volts to the ignition switch. took it out to find oil on the back causing my resistance. Module is shot, in turn for time being until I get another, I wired in 2 flashers, one per side to keep me on the road til the module comes in. ordering monday. I'd start with checking voltage @ the socket and compare it to voltage from the battery. anything more than 1/2 volt is bad. and have fun chasing that gremlin!
