Default meltage behind timer

I was taking the timer cover off to switch it with a new one and behind that there is a wired "sensor". No manual yet hasn't arrived. What is this, and what brand should I use to replace it with.

That would be the camshaft position sensor. The "meltage" is from the potting compund used in the sensors construction. This is a common problem.

They work even when they are melted and you would really only wanna use a H-D one to replace it.

Spanners speaks the truth, unless you want to change the ignition system to after market.

That's cool. Any advantage to upgrading ignition on stock motor?

Only if the stock curves, etc aren't the optimum set up for the engine. The real advantage is adjustability for future changes in the engine or if they keep making the fuel worse you will be able to adjust for it.

You can get the ones that have no module, its all in the cone, and they have dials to adjust stuff!!! Very good option if you plan on doing some tuning in the future.
