Question Harley-Davidson part numbers

Hey all, I'm new to HDForums.
Hope this isn't the wrong place to post. I've looked around and this thread looks appropriate. I've scoured the internet looking for an answer but none seem to coming my way. I have both the Harley shop manual and the Clymer manual for my bike and can't seem to find OEM part numbers for everything I need.
Question is, does anyone know where a shade tree mechanic like myself might find a list of older part numbers for my '86 FXSTC short of getting a job at a Harley shop and rummaging through their old shop manual library? This economy has me doing a lot of the work myself, you know, the stuff that doesn't need a PhD in HD repair and reclamation reconstruction.
I've had "The Pickle" since I rode it off the showroom floor (I'm using the term "showroom" loosely 'cause, as most of us know, the old shops were hardly showrooms.) And yes, it's "The Pickle" because 1.) it's green and B.) I named her after the Arlo Guthrie tune that goes something like this..."I don't want a pickle...just wanna ride my motor-sickle"...
Thanks in advance...

Go here and click on the schematic the parts list is below the pic. I do believe the OEM #s are in brackets ().

If you want a hard copy the actual Harley parts manual it is part number 99455-86A. And you might also want the service manual, part number 99482-90. You can get these from your dealer or off the internet from various sites or eBay.

That a four foot cop arrived with a five foot gun. A cop that at one time must have been about 6'3" that was met at the bottom of a mountain by a flying, singing, writing weirdo freak.

I don't wanna die. I just wanna ride my motor cy. . . cle.

No, they are not. In brackets are BikeBandit`s own numbers.

What I do to find part number? Go to Google, type in part name and model/year, keep searching till You find some parts that might use the number You need, then type in that number in Google to confirm it. If You type the number in You`ll find websties with parts using this number.

Ok thanks for that. I see 2 different numbers thought the top # was bike bandit's and the bottom was OEM. But thanks again for that info.

Most Harley part numbers have the form 12345-nn, where nn might be say 86, meaning that part was introduced in 1986.

Try Chicago HD's website....if you plug in the right search terms, you'll find the right part number.....or get the HD manuals like others have suggested.
