I just recieved a used 53422-97 license plate hoop and wanted to let you know that it will require alot of modification to work on our frames. As I stated earlier, without our frames being crimped like the later ones that bar wont just mount up. Since it is there to just hold the lic plate, I think I will modify the hoop, rather than the frame.

Chuck I was up talking to a couple buddies at a parts place and we did some measureing , we found that my license plate bar is .875 or approx 7/8" and the holes on both sides of the bike the bar slides into is a bit bigger, they had the license plate bar on there bike ( newer bikes ) and the piece appeared to be the same size as mine. Can you remeasure the new bar you got at the flat D end and the round tube part?

OK, my bar measures at .90, pretty much the same as yours. the crimped part of the hoop measured at 1.06, so it's not gunna slide inside the frame horn. I'm gunna get some 7/8's OD pipe and use it as an insert between the hoop and the stock frame horns. Drilled and bolted on both sides with about 2 or 3 inches extending into each part for extra strength, in case someone uses it for a hand hold. Will probably get that done this week along with getting the primary apart and ready for the new stator.

Thanks Chuck I guess I'll just have to wait until the part I got off ebay comes in the mail and go from there. You can takes some pics of your results and post if you like.

OK, its a good thing I only paid $10 for my hoop, cause I just F#$KED it up. Here is what I found, If you CAREFULLY grind the weld off (cooling it ALL THE TIME, so you dont yellow the chrome) on the fender strut mounting tabs (ours are welded to the frame horn, so there not needed) and with some filing and finagling you can get the hoop to slide inside our frame horns. Measure, mark, and drill the mounting holes, and you should be good.

Hope this helps, now I need to find another hoop.
