I just purchased my first Harley a 1998 FXD with about 19,000 miles. Regarding the EVO engine and maintenance/problem free riding, does anyone have any tips/tricks or advice for me? The bike, besides a set of Vance and Hines long shots is currently stock.
The inner cam bearing should be replaced at some time, especially if you change the cam, but I'd say you have a lot of trouble free miles to go. Have phun.
The last Evos are fine. All you need to do, if you plan doing your own maintenance, is get yourself the factory service manual. It will give you an alternative to counting sheep during those sleepless nights and help you out when something needs to be done to your bike. While you're wide awake, ride and enjoy!
