Default Grrrr

Ok,I'll be the first to admit that I'm not very mechanically inclined, & I probably never should've bought an old bike, but **** happens. I needed to remove a chrome cover on the left side of my 95 evo to get the engine #.The nut that holds it on is behind the shifter rod. Well, I unbolted the shifter rod from the foot peddle, got the cover off, & bolted it back to the peddle. Seemed simple enough. Later in the day I took off on it & it didn't wanna shift into 3rd gear, and it was a bitch to downshift. Anybody have a clue as to what could've happened?

You may have tightened the bolt and have a washer in the wromng place, or perhaps the cover is binding. Good thing you posted this question here rather than the TC forum, as they are best at answering questions like " what is the best cup holder for my Harley" LOL

Agree with the knock on TC, but I love my cupholder. My buddy teases me to no end. A few weeks ago we went on a nice long ride through the hills of Southern Indiana. Our usual stop to grab a drink was closed, nothing for miles. The next half hour I would pull up next to him, pull my water bottle out of the cupholder and take a nice long swig and just smile at him........

The cover I took off stayed off, so that's not a factor in this. All I did was lift the shifter peg back up & put the bolt back that connects the shifter rod to the peg & tightened it back up.

As you get more Harley experience, I think you will find that Females make the best cup holders.

Is something binding? Is the shifter free to travel up and down? Loosen up whatever to took apart and see how it changes.

+1 on the loosen it up thing. You weren't afraid to take it apart once, so loosen it up a little and try going through the gears again. You don't really have to have it all that tight. If you have to leave it looser than you feel comfortable with to get it to work right, grab some red loctite for the threads to keep it from backing off with vibration.

What part(s) did you loosen?

Make sure you use some blue loctite on the nut.
