ORIGINAL: blueson2s...My only gripe is with the leaking rocker box gaskets which is real common with this engine, but it's a pretty easy fix if you are half-way handy with a wrench and use some high-quality gaskets.
At the end of the day, I think this engine will be considered a hallmark in Harley history.
Yeah, don't get me started on the leaking rockerboxes!!!!!!!!! Or Base gasets!!!!!!!!!!!!! But mine are fixed finally!!!!!!!!!
The EVO is the small block chevy of the motorcycle world. It's copied/cloned/transplanted/hopped up/etc. Simple (especially the carbed versions), and will make 80/80 with only minor mods. Nothing wrong with a good running EVO!!!!!!!!!
An EVO, or block head is the motor that real bikes come with. The twin cam motor is the current motor, and is the motor preferred by most women of child bearing age.
All that being said, if you look at HD's history, it was this Evolution engine that put them back on the map, and on the map for good. Knuckle Head, Pan Head, Shovel Head, Twin Cam, Revolution, and the one they will be known for forever is the Evolution. When HD was bought back from AMF it was this engine that started that climb back up out from the brink of financial ruin. It brought all the older Harley riders back and hooked all of us ânewâ riders just plain old is the âcultâ motor. This is the motor that most of us know and most of the aftermarket was founded upon. I love mine, I expect a couple hundred thousand miles out of it...It is battle tested, and just like the earlier post, it is the small block Chevy of the motorcycle world... Long live the EVOâŚ.
