In my mind Evos, whisky, cigars, and women (ALWAYS women!) go together very nicely!
Well.... I prefer vodka and rum over whiskey and I don't smoke (and neither does my Springer) but bring on the Ladies and I'll give 'em rides on my EVO!

Got it back on the road 8 weeks later and started noticing spots of rust on brand new chrome pieces!

Long story short, after battling with the stealership over the whole situation anyways, I plan to lick my wounds and take care of it myself. Lots of TLC and polish and wax and replacing anything too badly corroded to clean.

LONG LIVE THE EVOS!!!
Speaking of new chrome parts rusting... I broke a (15-year-old) timer plate stud the other day while tightening it, and had to go to the dealer to get a few more, to have some spares. Got to chatting with the parts guy, and I was telling him how I love my old '95 Evo, and how reliable it is, how the chrome is all still perfect, etc.

He replied, and I quote... "Yeah, back then everything was made right here in America and was made to last, with quality... not like the mostly Chinese junk on the new bikes."

Then I told him my wife rides a V-Star 1100, and he got all excited and said that and the 1300 are his favorite bikes, and that his next bike will be a big Road Star tourer, and that his brother rides one and it's awesome. etc. etc. etc.

This was a Harley parts guy, AT THE PARTS COUNTER, saying this! Wow... the dealers know what's going on...

You're right about that! 1998 was the best year ever... the last Evo year for the touring bikes. That year had all of the improvements made since the introduction of the Evo back in '84. Unless you're lucky enough to have a '99 Softail... or even better, a 2000 FXR4... (sigh)

wonder what happened to that guy with the 2000 FXR ? The one you selfishly tried to steal from under my nose?
My 98 is very well built, 28,000 miles and no issues at all.
The whole improved technology thing worries me. My 3 year old cel phone croaked and the new and improved replacement is way inferior IMHO
Hope Harley's chrome dept isn't run by a bunch of Walmart worshippers. Some of us will actually pay for quality.....

I simply offered to GET there first, Dale, and I said I would top your paltry offer for the "bike made from spare parts!" LOL! If I only had the money...

Yeah, I was in the dealer getting some timing studs the other day, and I looked at the new Road Glide Custom and sat on it. My feet could barely touch the ground, and that's a factory-lowered bike! The seat was also so wide, hard, and uncomfortable (must be made by Corbin...), that if I were to drop $19,000 one, I'd have to drop another $3000-$4000 for a new Mustang seat I could live with, a Tour Pak with detachable mount, a decent A/C and pipes, EFI remapping, and on and on - just to get where Bertha is NOW! And the chrome would probably start peeling in a year or so...

I was so depressed when I got home, I went and bought these NOS Nempco Elite 80-spoke wire wheels for Bertha for $600... I've always loved the look of real wire wheels, and buying them made me feel SO much better! I'm thinking maybe whitewalls would look nice with them, and some open, polished rotors... it never ENDS, this S**T!

[QUOTE=schwangster;7000986]98 ?
where are you located? and how much?

Ok here is your chance to own mine. The top end was rebuilt last year, heads were done, rings, pistons, all new valves, new Andrews EV 27 cam, tires, new brake pads ,new upgraded brighter head lites, led brake/tail lite on tour pack, duel air horns, newer style mirrors, fuel injection systen just cleaned, new speakers in dash, full cover, new am-fm antenna much better reception than the stock 1,always stored inside a garage. I paid $7500 for it 2 1/2 years ago and put a king tour pack painted to match $500 and have spent over $2500 in parts and labor in the last 2 years.Over $10.500 invested. I bought it with 42.000 miles it now has 53.600 miles on it.
I have run spectra oil it since the rebuild @ 48.000 miles. Ok whats is a fair price ? I was thinking $7400.00 OBO, losing over $3000 in 2 1/2 years. This bike is posted in the classified's Your turn, John
