Well, in your own words, you "Royally Screwed up".
The Rocker box tops you have are for 1984-1991. They are for motors that vents the crank case out beside the oil pump.
Your motor vent out of the heads. The Rocker box tops used on 1992-1999 have provision for a Butterfly Vent in the center "D" ring and passages cast in the bottom to vent out of the heads.
The box tops you have will bolt up, but will not allow the crank to vent. This will cause problems when running. The later Rocker box tops will work on earlier motors. (vents not needed)
But the earlier box tops will not work on later motors.

Please Sir I'm not trying to dispute your word. It was mentioned to me that if you have the correct middle spacer it could work The umbrella thing I believe????? Just trying to salvage a bad decision
Thank you very much for your time Sir WP
Caught this after I asked "passages cast in the bottom to vent out of the heads. "
If you want to get rid of them let me email or pm me I may be interested, since I have one of the early bikes. My chrome boxes are getting a lil worn and when I go into the motor later this yr I will prob replace them.

I'll send a pm latter today. I know buying on e-bay has a risk as to condition. When I get the boxes here I'll give them a good look and have a HD tech ck them as well. Will stay in touch Thanks WP
Well the storey change
Thank you for your patience in me double cking things. here and on another forum. The info I got prompted me to contact the e-bay seller. The quick responces here allowed me to stay in the stated time frame to pay for the boxes. I explained what I had learned and done what I could to confrim it, along with an offer to complete the deal if that's what he wanted. He repleyed that this boxes were not breathers and offered to call the deal off. Very nice fella. I accepted and offered to pay what costs were involved. Again Thanks WP
