Default Tank console

I've recently replaced the radio/casette in my Ultra with the factory radio/CD plus the CB function. Old radio worked fine....but couldn't pass up the good deal on a new radio. I then fitted a 2006 Ultra tank console.

Everything was a simple bolt-on procedure. But, I did find out something that might help someone out.

If you have to replace the tank conlsole rubber molding and your bike uses 71294-89. Harley says 71294-89A is the replacement. However, I have discovered that 71294-08 is better than any of them. It has a higher lip on the inside of the console and stays in place much better. Hope this helps someone out there.....

What radio unit did you use? I'm looking for an AM/FM/WX/CB unit that would be compatible with the tank console and the handlebar controls. The seperate CB under the tourpack configuration is a hassle when I want to detatch and go solo.

The very late 1997 and and all 1998 models received a new radio plus different wiring to go with it.

76145-04 is the new radio I purchased. My old radio was 76146-98. Just plug-in-play....

I'm pretty sure someone could retrofit a 1998- radio into the earlier models. Electrical rewiring and different electrical connectors would be the biggest. Not impossible...just not easy plug-in-play. Would probably have to study two wiring diagrams and part-numbers from both year models side by side.

I'm always amazed at the hands on tidbits of really good info that comes from this forum, if I can't use it now, maybe later. Stuff you just can't get from a book. Thanks

I remember reading somewhere on this forum or another HD forum somewhere....

They claimed all you have to have is the 1998 inner connect and Ultra overlay to make the 1998 radio to work. After looking at the wiring diagrams.....I believe that to be correct.
