Default Low, Low, mileage issues?

I'm kickin tires on a 98 model with less than 10k miles. Wouldn't y'all think that once it became ridden often I'd be having to replace every gasket and seal on the damn thing.
It looks close to showroom but I can't be throwin good money after a bad decision. The other problem is it would be a long distance purchase, can't get my eyes or hands on it. I've never bought anything in this manner before and am leary about the transaction and shipping deal.
Thoughts?

Find something closer you can hear and maby ride or ride out and take a look. Might be a great deal.

I was looking last January for a bike. I found a bike the guy told me was a 2006. Turned out to be a 2002 that had it's 1k service in 02 and no other service since. His son rode it every once in a while, so it had 3k now. I didn't look at it.

Then I found a 2003 FLHTCUI with 2,090 miles, at a dealer. I bought it and put 7,400 miles on this summer no problems.
So if this guy has service records from a dealer or good indy, might be worth it. Personally, I would only buy from a dealer or someone I know takes care of his bike.

it don't have enough miles to require any service except a couple oil changes..
trust me I would love to find something down the road from me and still might but where I live, you can ride year round and rust is a problem so the "cherry" older bikes in this area are hard to come by.

If those miles were all from short trips there could be some bearing issues in the pipeline, gaskets and seals would be less of a worry.

picked up my '93 fxdwg last year with 5,000 original miles on it and no major issues with it other than needing to rebuild the carb ,changed all the fluids, a new front tire and a little tlc.

Yup, My '86 sat for 10 years....Carb was the major issue. Once fixed a fine runner over the years. It did need lifters, '86 lifters/not good. But Evo lifters go at age/mileage. Everything else was age related.

I bought my wifes 89 heritage softail from a dealer , the bike was 12 hours away. I got them to send me lots of pictures. The bike was mint other than normal leather wear. When I got there to try it the mechanic was good enough to let me use his compression tester as I was still not trusting because the speedo numbers looked off set a bit, compression was perfect and when I got home I spent the 20 buxs and got the buyers package and verified it was a one owner bike, perfect.

well, after further review I'm starting to walk from this deal. The guy bought the bike from the original owner in August and has not transferred the title and don't intend to. Don't believe it would fly in Texas to have a signed title from one feller and a bill of sale from another. Reckon I'm gettin too old to be forging documents. There's plenty of scooters out there and maybe one will pop up closer to home and it would be hard for me to buy one sight unseen anyway.

Been there done that. Made a deal a couple years ago and the guy had not transferred the out of state title to his name. Cash in hand, I told him no deal, but that I would be at the local bar for the next hour. Didn't take him long to get to the courthouse and back !! Some states (Nebraska sucks) are a real bitch on the paperwork: especially on out of state vehicles !!
Good luck !
