and for what it's worth, i was going to have Dale do my carb but just couldn't afford it right now... i plan on having him do it for me with another CV carb i have that i plan on using for my next build
I'm glad you posted this info. At $200 to mod & rebuild mine I think I'll give him a shot. Plus he's fairly local to me. I read his entire write-up and it sounds like he really knows his ****. A lot of my friends swear by the modded CV's, so there has to be something it. Very cool!
No problem. To me it made sense. By the time I got the core charge back I would have almost spent that much just rebuilding mine. It was this or a Minkuni. I am glad I went this route. What is strange is how rich he sets up the jets but I don't know what else he does. All I know is the plugs burn spot on, MPG at around 45 and runs nice and smooth. And as a bonus she is nice and cleaned up. Of course clean don't get you home
Ran a donated CV and did the throat polishing, contured stock slide, cut down spring, Yost kit, tuned in with a digital afr reader and rock solid. Installed a Mikuni 45 that was tuned in at the same low and mid afr's and some slight differances, the Mikuni has a more of the "leave this one alone" idle and just a slight better throttle response but not any miracle characteristics, funny thing is that the big Mikuni seems to get better fuel milage, I noticed that the CV would send the afr gauge into severe rich numbers in the accelerator pump area while rolling the throttle and the Mikuni stays close to the 13.0 range but maybe the smaller accelerator pump jet is the key to keep the stereotype Mikuni gas guzzler in check.
Funny story is that the last long ride I went on with the riders that haul thick payment books was good due to they were aware of "leave this one alone" white bike and waited for the gas stop to get a few jabs in on a assumed gas hog but matched dollar totals on the pumps with their leaned out EFI's so a good day for the Evo.

Sweet! I've been trying to decide which way to go with a carb for a while now. The dilemma was in deciding between buying a new Mikuni or S&S, or modding the CV. I like the idea of having the CV configured for my bike, as well as saving a few $$$ to spend elsewhere on the ride. This is next on my list right after the Fat Spokes. This takes all the hassle out of it for me, perfect

Bags I reckon you r on the money about the accel pump nozzle in the CV,I've always said and no one listened that it flows too much fuel.
Yea, I can see the CV rich condition at roll on helping a high compression engine control some detonation but needs a little clean out time with less compression but the extra fuel might be a hangover waiting for the CV diapram to move the needle in a crossover transition, just a theory but what the h$ll do I know, I can't afford to stay at a Holiday Inn
