have a look at the number on the needle- the jet size is 1/2 of the equation

People think the main is not important because you don't spend all your time at 3/4 throttle but they are forgetting that main jet size impacts on the needle mixture too, also, if one day you decide to go flat out just for ***** and giggles you could melt a piston in less time than you might imagine. The main jet gets used a lot when hauling your old lady and luggage, especially up hills.

Jetting is holistic, you need to review the whole set up and not make uninformed assumptions.

Got the new Samson exhaust in this weekend and installed it.
I had to remove the support for the stock rear header.
Just waiting on some more parts for the carb.

I ended up ordering a cv products kit. I put in a 45 slow and a 180 main. I am at 3500 feet above sea level so I didn't want to go too rich. When I pulled the old needle out it had three shims. Was that stock or from a previous owners mods maybe ?

I ended up with a 45 slow and 180 main, put everything back together about a month ago and fired it up no problems...

When I turned it off I smelled gas so I pulled the AC backing plate off and the half brass half plastic inlet 90 to the carb was cracked.

I just got the 1 piece brass in a few days ago, went for a ride today. Runs pretty good and the Samson pipes sound nice.

There is quite a bit of "popping" when I let off the throttle or decel.
Any ideas?

Some popping on decel is good ,banging and exploding is not.
If you want to get rid of the popping go out on the fuel mixture screw a 1/4 of a turn at a time till it's gone. They pop when you chop the throttle because the carb works only through the pilot and I reckon it should burble and pop a little or it's too rich.
