Hi, i have just my first Harley its a 1994 Fxlr lowrider and i don't have a manual yet.
can anyone tell me how to change the engine and transmission oil.
Thanks for all help received.
Warm the bike up. Pull off the left side cover, there is a rubber hose connected to a plug. Pull it loose and angle it down to drain the oil bag. Put some aluminum foil under the filter, form a valley so the oil runs out to the side. Take a screwdriver and punch a hole at the very bottom of the filter, also punch one on top. Let it drain good, dont rush it. Remove old filter ( I use a strap wrench ). Put a little fresh oil on the new filter o-ring and tighten half turn after it contacts the base. 3 qts fresh oil.
For the tranny, use a paint roller tray with a plastic liner...it will slide under the bike easily and leave you room to pull the plug. ( 7/8 socket ) Add 24 ozs fluid.
Dont ask what oil is best just do a search....and welcome to the forum
Just to add to what Flamed posted, the plug that the oil drain hose clamps to is on the right side of the electrical junction block under the left side "triangle" cover. You will also have to take your seat off to gain access to the fill hole on the oil tank. Leave the dipstick in the oil tank until after you have the drain hose aimed at your collection pan. That will prevent a big mess.
Congratulations on your purchase!
