Default Bertha has a small problem

I need to put a thin spacer between the drive pulley and wheel to keep the belt from rubbing the tire.

My HD shop pissed me off, so I'm thinking of doing the work myself if you guys can give me some guidance.

Is this a big deal? Do you have any tips to make the job easier?

Won't that throw off the belt alignment?

I dont think it's a good idea to shim hubs and drive pullys. I would say you have a tire that is the wrong size or your lower belt guard rubber (a strip of rubber on the inside of your belt guard) is rubbing on it . I would stay away from shimming your pully and look for the reason to why it rubs . What size tire are you running on it ?

If you just put a spacer behind the drive pulley, you have just misaligned your pulleys. Cogged belts are very intolerant of misalignment. You can:

  1. Run a narrower belt....requires changing rear pulley
  2. Fabricate new spacers to offset the wheel to the right...will affect handling to some degree.
  3. Put the correct size tire back on the bike.

Check alignment on motor/trans and rear wheel.

One of the reasons I asked about "wrenching" in the other thread, I saw the whitewall scuffed in the pics..

Check the alignment and if it's OK, get the correct size tire and be happy... That slightly wider tire does nothig for you in the handling department anyways...

I think NGH put that particular tire on her because the correct size wasn't available.

I'll have the shop change it when she goes in for the oil leak.

Thanks guys.
