Default help with 90 flhs ignition wiring problem

I removed the ignition switch from My 1990 FLHS. I was careful to mark each circuit breaker before I removed the wires. When I reattached them I was careful to put them back on the correct stud (each wire is a different length and a lines with the correct stud).
Even compared the wiring diagram. Now when I turn the slector switch to the ignition position the motor turns over without hitting the start button (even with the stop button in the off position) any ideas?

thanks, Roach

What else did you do? Did you mess with the handlebars at all, or any other wires?

yes, removed the right side throttle controll and brake lever so I could pull the cables and brake line through the inner fairing. reattached the throttle cables and brake line. Things seem fine there also.

I'm going to take a SWAG and say that the problem is either in your right side control or the starter wire from the switch going down.

I tend to agree. Any ideas how to trouble shoot this. Everything looks right, feels right, but obviously not right

Take the control back off the handlebar, leave it open and not touching anything, see if it still kicks the starter over.

I would also disconnect the battery cable at the starter solenoid or the starter and tape the end up with some black tape until you get this figured out. You can hear the solenoid or the relay kick in if it is still not working right.

Hey Dr. Hess,
I followed your advice and removed the throttle control and handle bar controls. No change in the problem. The stop switch and the start switch seem to be in working order. I guess I will remove the handle bars and ignition selector switch and look for some other cause. If anyone has an idea I'm wide open to suggestions.

Just for the hell of it, pull the starter relay out of its socket and see if it still does it. If it does not, then put it back in and disconnect the orange wire at the ignition switch and try again.

Could you have swapped the orange and red wires at the switch by accident? I don't THINK that would do it, but there might be a bizarre feedback loop thing.
