I just finished installing an S&S 4"x4" 100 cubic inch V2 motor in my 1990 FXRP. It's still in the break-in period so I'm not running it over 3000 RPM (well occasionally it gets up to about 3500 when I'm running through the gears...it revs so easily...)
No problem starting it with the stock-sized Drag Specialties battery and 1.4kw starter, even yesterday morning when it was 30 degrees out. No problem with the stock clutch so far (not bad for a clutch with 100,000 miles on it!) This motor pulls like a locomotive, even keeping it down to 3000 RPM. Want to pass a truck on a steep hill? Just twist it!
I'm glad I got 100,000 miles out of the original 80" motor, but I'm even more glad that I finally got this S&S motor. LOVE IT!
got the old mil ot big hole now
time to clean it up before the new engine put into place. will keep posting with pics slow it is cold in north BC Canada
Check your engine mounts and replace any that look "hookey". Don;t forget you have to re-align everything. Check with your manual on how to do it, don't rush it.
