Well gentlemen it's been a few weeks. The Indy and I tore into it awhile back. LOL I was hinting to do a compression and a leak down test. He flat said Its gotta come apart. Lets do it. WE did Now I was fit to be tied when I pulled the rear head and the gasket just literally was in layered pieces. This thing looked like it should have been a Briggs @ Stratton lawn mower head gasket Then I couldn't find any tracer or markings to verify a bad head gasket. The Indy knows me well enough and smiled and said "I know what your thinking but I promise you this'll fix it" We pulled the jugs, ck'd them as well as the pistons. We agreed that they were in very good shape We made sure what the bore was (stock) and got the gaskets ordered. I got everything cleaned up and ready to go back together. Used a straight edge to ck top of the jugs and cyl heads. I forget the spec now but we both measured it the same, honed the cylinders __ so here we go. Got it back together and running . It ran fine and maybe some better than since I bought it. This situation has made little to no sense to a hard headed redneck BUT I have 500+ mi on it and its still running strong. I ck'd and reck'd every piece as we disassembled it and found NOTHING I could point a finger at and say That's It . I even took a magnifing class and ck'd the inside of the metal ring on what was left of the head casket for a split that might let it leak through the layer of gasket material.nothing Anyhow that's where I'm at, riding a smiling a good bit more now. Now for a couple more pieces of chrome and a radio BAG Thanks for the help folks WP
I don't get it. Are you saying thaf even the indy doesn't know what was wrong with it? I'd get a new one.
No Sir He was more than confident it was a head gasket problem. I have to admit I and a few fellas here thought OK You spray Brake cleaner (non cloro stuff) between the cyl head and the jug and it kills the engine 3 times in a row. Well there realy ain't much else to do. It was as much me being hard headed and not wanting to take it apart as anything. Alot about this just made no sense to me BUT it's running good for 500 + mi Have a good 1 WP

Well, glad it worked out for ya. I guess I misread the post.
In the beginning, I said it was a head gasket.
At the end I thought I read that neither of you really knew what it was, but changing the gaskets made it work. Guess I misunderstood.
