Default 1990 evo plugs

Hi all.
Have a newly purchaced 1990 FLT ex. police with 160000 klms.
Havent had a chance to get to know her yet as winter was upon me and no garage etc.
Did pull the plugs and noticed heavy black sooty deposit on both.?
Any opinions. ???

I'm running E3-34 plugs right now and they seem to run a little on the hot side. Went to the dealer and got a set of 5R6A's to see if they run colder. Just some suggestions. My bike is fairly stock.

Good idea to change them even if they don't look worn.

I put a set of Autolite 4265 in last year, made start-ups very easy! My ride really likes the Autolites USA made.

Changed mine to the auto lite last year and they seem to do quite well, rear plug a bit darker but that seems to be normal.

Thanks to all for the replies but ... aside from the plug makes etc.
Would i be possibly looking at a carb. set too rich or whatever .?
I think the po rode it to work and back in the last few years of ownership .???
If the plugs are this carboned up , i have to assume the heads are too .?
What would you recommend here boys ...?

Hard to say, if your getting run on the heads could be carboned and also if po had a short run to work and he ran with enrich enter on that could blacken the
Plugs. Try a new set and see how they look after a good run after keeping the mph low which would keep your carb in the pilot jet range.

I wouldn't put much value in reading the plugs on a bike that you just bought and has been sitting. Prior owner may have done nothing more than start it and let it idle every few weeks.
Change the plugs and all the fluids. Give it a thorough looking-over. Then take it out and ride it for a few hundred miles to assess how she runs.
Enjoy first, worry second.

Plugs are plugs as the ole saying goes , but the newer plugs are really good .
Would like to try a set of irridiums in the ole 1990 evo.
Anyone know what the proper cross over # is ?
