Every so often, when I hit the stater button, nothing.......then I hit it again, and she turns over. It this the "dreaded click" I see being discussed?
Sometimes, the starter sounds "crunchy" like gears aren't meshing properly.
What the heck should I do.....She came with a "no haggle" warranty......at least it I think that's what NGH meant when he said "as is."
I had the same issue and it was the starter solenoid. After removing the starter and doing an inspection, the contacts looked like the surface of the moon. Pits and craters everywhere.
The Dreaded Click is a big Click or Clunk and nothing else. If you don't get that much, then you have a related but not identical problem. If you push the button and get nothing at all, not even a Clunk, then I would look at the starter relay or the starter switch in the handlebar (which rarely go out).
I go through at least 1 starter relay a year, cheap fast fix. Its a very faint click and you may have to hit the starter button 4 or 5 times before it engages the starter.
check all your connections and grounds. If the battery cables are lose, you lose a lot of juice to the starter.
Sir, I owe you a cold one.
Took the seat off and hit the starter........the positive cable was so loose, it was arching, the negative cable was loose also.
Tightened them both as hard as I could and wowee! Turned over and started faster than I've ever seen!

Thank you sir.......
You're welcome.
Been there, done that. Tightening the battery connections is on my regular maintenance list.
