For the extra $.90 to fill my tank I run 93 octane.
I've had occasions where I had no choice but 87 octane and it pinged under load.

Cool

my manual say run regular, and i do. ive tried the premium, and the bike absolutely hates it, no matter the temps. regular idles nice, pulls hard, no ping at all, even 2 up pulling the trailer, and no, my timing isnt retarded at all.

This is me too, well except the pinging. Mine doesn't ping with 87, but for the tiny cost of better fuel, I'll buy premium.

I tried regular and my bike started dieseling. I'll stick with premium.

My 93 has 40K, and regular is all I put in it. Never had a problem with gas or pinging. I'm close to sea level here in Calif. but go up to mountains, with a long hard pull and no detonation or anything. I also have a fairly mild cam and stock compression. I had a stock 03 883 Sporty and just put regular in it too, no problems.

if i run anything but premium, my bike knocks and pings, runs horrible. wasn't thinking about it this spring and put a couple gallons of mower fuel in. the bike ran so bad, i though the engine was about to blow till i relised what i did and filled up with 93. the 87 or whatever it is they sell now, is below grade for regular gas, it really shouldn't be used in any thing but lawn equipment..who can afford to fill up a car with anything else, but it is not good fuel

Without getting into a big long speech, the lower the octane you can run without getting into detonation the better, 87 is volitale and burns quicker than 93.

I ran premium almost all of last year, the forst year I had the bike. When filling up one day a buddy asked me why I ran premium. I told him i was told too. He said check the manual. Sure enough it says use 87. I've been using it sense, even at Daytona this year where it was in the 80's every day with no issues. My bike is stock.
