Went in the grocery store to get a few things (was in for a half an hour) and when I came out my left saddle bag was MISSING, the whole darn thing!!!!!!! I have full coverage on my bike so we will see what insurance has to say on monday.
To add insult to injury I was riding home when I looked behind me to make sure my lights in the rear were wroking (had some previous electrical issues, I like to check them at least once on my rides) and saw blue smoke coming from my L exhaust pipe! (Sigh) I have a 50/50 split warranty with the dealer so I was wondering how much I have to look forward to spending and what may be wrong for my own knowledge.
I started it up and warmed it up, and did not see smoke today but definitly saw it last night, I rode her pretty hard. How are the oil circulation and breathers run on the old evo's is occasion oil smoke normal????? its not a huge cloud or anything and my oil doesn't seem do be going down much at all......
Thanks for the post tex I will run her today and tomorrow and see what the smoke issue is, will call the dealer tomorrow, they said its like 11 hrs for valve guides!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best thing you can do is make yourself up a leakdown tester and see what you get for results and that will tell you the health of the motor.
Really sucks someone swiped your saddle bag, guess they thought they needed it more than you.
Ok, had the glide checked out today and all seems to be ok. The tech (Damien) was an evo rider himself and said I would be making ALOT more smoke than what I saw, he saw no smoke after a 15min ride ot the dealer and idling. He said if ridden hard or for along time, the oil can get "thinner" and you may see some light blue smoke as the oil viscosity gets thinner due to heat, his does it in traffic if he sits for awhile (he has 130K on his glide) and he wouldn't worry about it. Now all I need to do is find a bag lid, stealership will be the last resort.
Well I am sorry you got theived......that always blows!
I am sorry we here on the EVO forum were not able to answer your questions better, but you were a little vauge......I guess we can assume it was a touring bike, street glide or road glide, and the theft would have been a hard bag........but not knowing the specifics, model, year, mileage, touring etc makes the questions poised difficult at best to answer. In general the year of the EVO will be thee first clue, if it is an earlier model then valves could really be the big question mark, however seeing smoke once and not again could mean anything from extra burnt fuel from vapor lock, to oil burning excessively due to thinning out.....its really a crap shoot at this point. It is likely though as bullett proof as these motors are that what you saw could easily be attributed to overall oil condition and oil than anything else including a fuel issue that would probably still be smoking and present. So assuming it was the oil, I reccomend buying a new filter and three quarts of 20 W 50 (brand is your choice) Synthetic or conventiional is also your choice, and for the fourth qt GO TO AUTO ZONE-pick up a quart of 20 w 50 Lucas oil Stabilizer.....that brings you to the 4 quarts needed for the oil changes.....make sure the Lucas bottle is the one that specifically says formulated for Harle Davidson Motorcycles......in the older EVOS especially ....Lucas.... and I speak fro expierence, quiets older valvetrains, stabilizes oil to prevent break down and adds more viscosity......I add it now at every oil change. One qt of Lucas to either conventional or synth will go a long way in protecting you older evo engine andf making the oil last longer in between oil changes....I switched to Lucas, and Mobil one synth 20 W 50 and my EVO is quieter, runs 25 degrees cooler and a month into it riding hard, my oil looks new still. Good luck with the bag and insurance....and maybe give the lucas a shot....in an older EVO it cant hurt.....the dealers wanna sell you there stuff but itsd no better than anyone elses....the oil in the HD branded bottle.....Mobil 220 W 50 @ 4.00 more per qt.........imagine that !

Reason: bad typos....friggin iphone corrective text blows ass !
Thanks JoBoo, its an 86 Elec glide. I like the Lucas idea I think I will try it, I got a free case of HD Oil from winning a HOG chapter raffle (I put half in my 66 midget:-)). I found a bag lid in black primer for $50 shipped instead of the 150 the stealer wants, so if insurance screws me I have a backup, my deduct. is $500 soooooo I think I will be paying out of pocket.
Oh and my heel shifter fell off somewhere on I95 yesterday. Awsome.
