Default Front End Lowering Questions

I was just wondering what a lot of you guys or gals are using to lower the front end on softails. I have been looking and searching on the site about the progressive spring kits and i have seen good and bad reviews. So my questions are what kit works best and how does it ride. Also what fork oil to use? Also wat are yall doing for the back other than a shot gun shock or a set of airtails cause i just cant afford that right now. Post a pic if you got one.

eBay kit for the rear. You can find them for around 20 bucks and it'll get you two inches lower in the rear. Search softail lowering kit.

All I do for the front is put spacers made out of pieces of pipe under the rebound springs. Its cheap and you change the fork oil at the same time. Take off the wheel, take out the dampner bolts, pull the springs, dampner rods, and rebound springs out the top with a magnet. I had to extend my magnet with wire to reach. Put the spacers in, then rebound springs, then rods, then start the bolts back in. you'll have to space the forks up to start them and might not be able to torque them down until you have the fork caps back on. One time I cut the main spacers down too but it bottomed out so now I just put them back together as is. Its harder to get the fork caps back on though.

Since in you are compressing the springs some, wouldn't your method make for a bit of a stiffer ride?

Yeah, it compresses it but out didn't seem to affect the ride much. If you thought it did you could cut some off the upper spacers 1/4" at a time.

progressive rear shocks from the swap meet for 50 bucks dropped the rear 3 1/2 inches. ebay 4 under fork tubes for $130. i dont know if you have motorcycle swap meets in your area, i did in california, ive now moved to nevada and had to finish off my build on ebay. just keep searching and the right parts will come up at the right price on ebay.

50% of my parts came from the swap meet, 40% came from ebay, 5% came from jireh, and 5% (frame and cases) came from the factory. total cost of build approx. 9k, wich includes the 6k i paid the insurance company for the wrecked bike with a clean title

oh and the seat was in a dumpster at laughlin river run. someone decided it wasnt comfortabel enough to go back home on i guess

Have used progressive fork springs on a softail and sporty in the past do the job well with some decent oil in, wanted to bring the RK down a bit recently and used the progressive cartridge inserts instead of just the springs IMO much better than just springs and make the front end so much more stable
