Default Hand Controls Conversion from '95 to '96 and later

I've noticed there are no aftermarket (nor OEM) hand controls available for '95 and earlier Harley's with dual discs, but the options appear to be endless for '96 and later hand controls.

What is required to convert from the "old" 1995 hand controls, to the "new" 1996 and later hand controls? I know I need to swap out the switches, but is there anything else? Are the brake lines the same?

Thanks!!

I'm going to follow this thread also. I have been thinking about doing the same thing. Most of the work is going to be converting the wiring harnesses. I have the schematics for both versions here at home and will put some time into figuring out the conversion over the weekend if it rains.

I put 96 up controls on my 84....single disc. Wasn't a big deal...a few of the wires don't match up color-wise, but if you look at both wiring diagrams, it is pretty simple to see what goes where. I used the same brake line on both.

They are out there igpf you want to use the stock style. I just put apes on a 1995 roadking (they have dual discs) and we bought new chrome controls. Look on eBay.

Did my 95 road king a few months back, fitted full 2006 switchgear and hand controls straight on no issues, plugs were the same so literally plug and play!

IMO the newer ones have more of a rounded look and look nicer

As far as i could find out anything post 97 are the same as far as the switch gear are concerned (apart from Glides with volume control etc) master cylinders are different depending on single or dual disc obviously but if you stick with FLHR items they are the same. I bought the lot from a US breakers yard via ebay shipped here to the UK expecting to have to amend the wiring etc when they turned up after a quick check found they were exactly the same, even the coloursŹ I then sold my immaculate original chrome switches and levers etc for more than the new stuff cost me! Result all round!
