I just got my wideglide put back together over the weekend and it runs much stronger than before .It accelerate's through the gears great and the mid to high rpm range is great. But when cruising at what I'm guessing is 1,500 to 2,500 rpm it has this miss in the engine. When I open the throttle it speeds up fine with no hesitation or miss.I pulled the plugs and the front is black and the rear is the normal gray color.I'm running a new s&s super e with a 28 intermediate and a 68 main.I've tried two different sets of plugs with the same effect on both.I also did a compression test and both cylinders are equal. I also checked for intake leaks and there isn't any. I'm not sure what to check next ?
Check the enrichner to ensure it is sealing and not leaking extra fuel into the engine, along with the float level. Black and gray are a little rich with todays fuel. If all is well there then lean out the low speed, oh yeah what is your idle mixture screw set at. What was done to the engine recently and what has been done in total???

I recently had the cylinders bored .005 over and put new pistons and rings in and had the valves ground and the seats cut and installed new valve seals.I replaced the ina bearing with a torrington.I changed the plastic breather to a S&S steel one and put in new S&S lifters.I also put a new S&S super E kit on to replace my hacked up cv (from the previous owner).I'm also running a set of V&H straight shots staggered with baffles installed.
I have the carb set a 1 and 1/2 turns out on the mixture screw.I will check the float. The enrichner plunger had to be lifted up slightly to put the air cleaner backing plate on to get the enrichner arm into place.I don't know if its supposed to be like that or if its keeping the enrichner circuit open slightly and causing problems.I forgot to mention that the plugs were black and gray with the factory jets a 0295 intermediate and a 070 main.I changed them to a 28 intermediate and a 68 main to see if that would make a difference and the front was still black and the rear was a off white and not too lean looking.I did notice that I have a little run on while idling if I raise the throttle and close it the engine stays at a higher rpm then drops down to idle again?
It was the enrichner it was lifted up about a 1/16th. I had to file out the backing plate a little, file the enrichner arm slot a little and bend the fingers on the arm down a little to get the plunger to bottom out.Its just spiting out the pipes a little now on lower than normal cruising speed so I'm gonna try a new set of plugs and turning the mixture screw in a 1/4 turn.
