Default removing rear wheel question

so im getting new tires. I want to take the wheels off and bring them into the shop to have the tires put on. It will save me $100. I know how to take the wheel off. My concern is getting the axle straight when i reinstall it. If i put marks on both side of the swingarm where the axle is now and line it back up on the reinstall it should be the same? Right? I have only had the bike a few months. When i bought it the axle was not straight and destroyed the belt. Its all fixed now(by local shop) and im paranoid about not getting it straight.

Don't move the adjusters when removing the wheel. Reinstall wheel and axel and everything will be just as before.

When I reinstall the tire and adjust the belt, I always measure the amount of exposed threads on both adjusters. I use a 6 inch machinist scale (ruler) and get it the same on both sides, then tighten the axle bolt down.

or you can take a coat hanger make about a 11/2 inch bend on one end this will go on pivot bolt where swing arm goes threw frame and then before you take it off put a rubber band on it wher the middle of the axle is..

You can fab a tool out of a coat hanger like the one in the attachment. I did and I think I made it 22 inches long. Works great and it's quick.

There are holes in the swingarm to put the alignment tool into on most Harleys...

I find I have to slacken off the belt-side adjuster, to get the belt off and wheel out. I then check wheel alignment when refitting the wheel. It really is straight-forward, although I have been doing it for umpteen years on my various bikes!

I feel sorry for the owners of V Rods and other newer Hogs with those awful snail cam adjusters......you set the tension/alignement and then, when you torque up the axle nut, the fecking, adjusters move...grrrrr!!!!!!!
