Default Camshaft end play?

Can someone explain the proper way to check cam end play? I'm installing a ev27 cam in a 95 softail custom. I have feeler gauges. Thanks.

Put the whole thing together (cam, shim, cover, etc.,) except for the lifter blocks and torque the side cover down. Measure the end play by moving the cam back with your fingers and putting the feeler gauge in the gap.

So I dont need to measure how much the cam moves out? With the cam pushed back towards the crank case, I got .090 is the largest that will fit. Am I good? I don't have a shim installed.

You need a shim. I think .050 is max, and .010 to .015 is perfect.

Andrews has great instructions in that cam you bought.. I just put one in, and ignored the ship manual by harley, just used the instructions and I believe mine was .007

Well, got the cam in, oiled her up, and hit the bottom. Fired up fine, and had a tick (think it was a lifter) that went right away. She seems fine, anything I should look out for in the first few miles?

Recheck the lifter block screws occasionally. I've had mine come loose twice on me after servicing, despite torquing to spec, etc.

Noted. I did put blue locktite on everything though. Should I look at rejetting carb? I was running a bit lean prior to the cam upgrade. I do plan on putting in some can opener baffles or lollipop tricks in my short pipes.

Depending on how much you changed the cam, you might consider playing around with the jets. You'll see pretty soon if it's too lean.

When I went from the factory cam to my EV1, I didn't have to re-jet, but that's not a very radical change and I was dialed in pretty well before.

I second very strongly about checking the lifter bolts. Also, I would really watch your plugs if you were lean before. I'm running that cam, but also with wiseco 10.1 pistons. My CV carb is jetted 190/48. There are times when I think I could go to 200/50 easily. Btw, do you get "popping" or backfiring when decelerating?
