Question slide carb conversion

I am putting on a Harley slide carb on my 1987 dresser and I'm having problems with the throttle cables, My question is do I need to change the throttle cables from the stock ones.

By a harley slide carb, do you mean their Mikuni flat slide??? If so the stock cables will work.

there don't seem to be enough cable to hook up to the carb on either the carb end or the throttle end, when I hook up the carb then I can't seem to get the throttle end hooked up and visa-verse. there doesn't seem to be enough on one end when the other end is connected.

The carb is a Harley Davidson CV not a Mikuni flat slide.

Do you have your cable adjusters all the way in when trying to hook them up?
Stock cables were designed for that carb.

Two things.....first you gotta back all the adjustment off and then fit the cable with the spring round it first.

Second......the older carby cables sometimes are not a good fit so either get stock ones for a 89 or later bike or just use one cable, to open the throttle.....that is how I ran my Ironhead when I put a CV on it......you don't actually need two cables....and don't let anyone tell you you do....just open that throttle by hand and see how strong that spring is.

I ordered new cables the other day due to this cv carb being off a newer model which requires more cable, I found this out at the local bike shop and the carb is now mounted and waiting for the new cables to arrive. my stock cables had 3.75 inches of cable and need at least 5-5.5 inches of cable to fit this setup, the reason the cables have to be custom ordered was the new style cables slide into the throttle housings and the old style/my setup has the screw in cables for the housing. thanks

You can convert the housing by drilling the threads out to the correct diameter.
