Just out of curiosity why do you need proof that your bike is seeping?
Let us know if the dino oil thing works.
I am going to try it for a different seep. (rocker boxes)
About a million years ago when I was in Army Flight school. They would use straight mineral oil in the helicopter engines. They all ran fine(more or less) and performed for the required hours.
They told us to never put even one quart of detergent oil in the engine because the detergent would clean all the gunk that was holding the internals together and cause "engine malfunction". In other words it would allow you to practice your autorotation technique for real.
What I'm saying here is the syn may have already done it's job and cleaned the gunk that was preventing the leak. If you return to dino oil you may have to ride for quite a few miles to get it to gunk-up again.
But definitely a worthwhile project, can't wait to be proven wrong and hope you are correct. Honestly my money is on Dino.
BTW: I've always run dino (HD 20w-50) in my bikes and one has 119,000+ with no problems, the other 93,000+.
It may just be coincidence, but, there is a bigger spot of oil under my bike this morning than I've seen before.
The filter isn't leaking, plug is dry.
I thought the leak might be getting worse. Might be time to do the gaskets, but NOT in the middle of riding season..........
you could do it in a day or certainly a weekend, unless you decide to go with pistons and headwork.. I'm curious of the results too.. Only dino for me, I just dont see the rational of the added cost of syn..
Let us know if it works.........been thinking about doing the same thing. By the way, where do you get new cartridges for that oil filter? I have the same one and the part number at JP cycles don't work anymore

This is what happens when she's cold. As soon as she warms up, the seeping/leaking slows almost to a stop.
