I currently have Samson dragpipes wit baffles. The exhaust is in good condition as far as finish goes (duals) would like to go to mufflers and keep it dual. Are there mufflers that I can install without having to rejet.I have had a 50 - 50 suggestion rate. Some say I can use SE 11,s without rejetting.I run it a littlle rich at present without and plug problems....just because it runs better .Carb is an S&S E.Mainly want to go with mufflers to give a cleaner look, more retro.
Gotta be for duals, side by side, not staggered..1 3/4 pipe size. in other words, the pipes would be cut to length and mufflers fitted to length with existing brackets.
Dert,
The mufflers (baffles) are internal. The pipes are 1-3/4" with shields for total diameter of 2-1/2"? They install with stock brackets. If your interested the best thing to do is get on the Vance & Hines web site and check you application. They're off a '98 Heritage Softail Classic.
The only V&H has for a 92 are complete sets with optional fishtails ..My brackets are rt and lt ,not stacked on the right side.I want to keep it as retro as possible...dont think yours will work..Theirs are 650.00....think i found some take offs for 200.00 from a springer Thanks
If you're running it on the rich side now with the drag pipes andbafflesand you replace them with mufflers it is still going to run on the rich side how much will all depend on the muffler itself. There are mufflers out there that are basically designed the same as you're drag pipes the difference being the mufflers have a sound absorbent packing to help quite them even more. If these are the type muffler you get then you should not notice any difference from what you're running now but if the mufflers have a more restrictive type of baffling then it will run richer. There is something you can do and it will save you some money at the same time and that is to pick up a set of slip on mufflers and use you drag pipes as header pipes for the mufflers by cutting them off so that when the slip-on's are mounted they will fit the mounting brackets. This way you get to keep you're duals and you wont have to put a pile of money to something you may not like the sound of , if you want to try something different just get another set of cheap slip-on's.
Thats my plan exactly...keep my existing head pipes.Chrome is in excellent condition.I have looked at many mufflers, just cant decide on which. The springer mufflers I found are too restrictuve and decided against them.Thanks.We are on the same page.
Check out cycle shack's website, they have slip fit mufflers for EVO and they also have universal fit that might work well for you if the drag pipes are 1 3/4" OD
Checked out Cycle Shacks and cant tell where the brackets attachments are on the mufflers/universal fits. They look good.Guess i will find a dealer and ask questions.Looks as though they might be the better choice,Thanks
