When you put the race back on remember to leave space behind it so it can be pulled next time. I believe it's .100", but you should check your shop manual to ensure that it's the right dimension.

Thanks John I remember you giving me that lesson back when I did the overhaul on the old tranny.
John with all the transmissions you;ve worked on have you heard of any mainshaft big bearing/case issues ? Of leaking in that area because something bad with the case or do you think this is just an issue of tranny sitting on shelf with no oil in it and seals drying out?
4-speeds yes, 5-speeds not really. However having worked on these things I learned a long time ago anything is possible. You would be suprised at the things I've seen damaged through "owner maintenance" or lack thereof!!!
John
The wedding band seal comes out with a heavy duty pick or a small flat bladed screwdriver. pull the inner race out when you take the seal out and make sure the o-ring/quad seal is in there, the inner race is clean and put back in facing the right way, Lube all the rubbing surfaces of the seals and the shafts they contact too!!!
John
John I better ask you now just in case, which is the proper
Direction for the bearing race to be facing?
Big main seal was Definately leaking, changed all the seal for tranny and inner put the oil in tranny and bike down on floor on side stand, no time to reassemble the inner on bike so I should see a nice dry spot under tranny when I get home from work.
This morning when I got up and checked the white rag I put under tranny sure enough there was a couple drops. Took it out for ride and a drop or two fell. Not sure what's going on here. I used loctite around the edges of the big seal. My other tranny when I rebuilt it I never lost a drop.
Check the seals for leaks...a gear change shaft seal leak will emerge in the same place as a main seal leak so be careful.
Check the IPB seal and also that the race is in the correct position as its spacing is determined by its length and you'll need the factory manual to work it out.
Check for scoring on all metal shafts that have a seal sitting on them, reposition seal to miss the score line if necessary.
Watch out for feckwit drivers in silver Mazdas.....
Thanks Spanners the race is in the proper place and Definately not shifted seal, I again wasn't the one don't the big seal install ( should have kicked him off the helm) I have the feeling there is some scoring in the seat of the big Zealand
Needs to be dressed. Suppose to get rain next week and as long as this stays as a small drip I'll leave it for now. The guy that made my tool for the big nut on the pulley made it too short so I'll get that fixed up and pull the pulley only this time. I was actually lucky as this tranny took the larger big seal than my original tranny and I just happened to have one.And ya I'll what out for Mazdas, which my wife just happens to have a 6 and daughter has a 3.
