1992 Touglide Ultra Classic value??
Also part of the fun of being a Harley Girl is thinking you look cool. If your husband's bike is "ugly" in your mind that takes away that fun. So if OP was on the fence about purchase, and wife hates it, time to move on.
I considered a tour glide when I was looking for a used bike. But I was too afraid to buy such an old bike. I have limited wrenching skills. If OP can wrench, and is willing to risk alienating his wife, go for it.
OP, if your wife doesn't like the shark nose, tell her you would be happy to get a Batwing, but you are going to need a bigger budget. Plenty of other garage queens, if you are patient. I was looking for a softail, for an acquaintance, and there were nice bikes from guys too old to ride, or divorced.
Hope you become the former and not the latter!
.Im hoping she will give in but if she doesnt, well, guess I will have to get a "cool" looking bike that has been slammed with a badlander seat and no backrest..lol.. Then she will be begging me for an ultra..lol...
And in the end.... its my money thats involved.. not hers..lol...
From your description of it, I kinda wish I had come across that one before the one I have. I love the blue color scheme and sometimes kinda wish mine was an ultra, but I think all I'm missing is the lowers, cruise and communications stuff.
Heck, even if something goes horribly wrong, replacing the engine really isn't that huge of a deal. Evo crate engines are still available and the MoCo still remans the big twin evos as well for a very reasonable cost. I replaced my engine just over a month ago with a reman through Harley's engine reman program, did it all myself in my garage, and the total cost was under $3000!

I didnt buy my bike for "Harley Barbie's" approval. I bought it to best suite the riding I like to do......long distance and the shark fairing IMO is best at that. If she doesnt like the look of it, oh well, she can stay home, or sit on the back....her choice. My wife HATES the shark fairing, but given the alternative of staying home, she picks passenger.
and yes we are happily married even owning a Tour Glide.
That must be part of the difference between EVO and Twinkie
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
When I brought home the Ultra, she looked at it and said something like 'I thought you were getting something cool. That looks like an old man's bike.' I replied that I was, after all, an old man.
But once she sat on that big old seat (that I had re-done with memory foam by Mean City Cycles) and leaned back and put her feet on the floorboards, she was sold. She can ride now for a few hours without complaints. So it really is a case of function over form.
