Default Long Time Rider But New Here

I started riding mini bikes and dirt bikes in the late '60s. I have been riding street bikes since the late '70s.

I continue to enjoy riding dirt, dual-sport and street bikes.

In 1990 I became tired of using a backpack or bungee cords every time I wanted to carry something that would not fit in my pockets. I was planning on buying a brand new Harley Ultra.

I went to Van Nuys Harley to have a look at the new bikes. There was an '88 FLHTC parked next to a new '90 FLHTCU and it was several thousand dollars less. It already had all of the Screaming Eagle parts that I was planning on adding, installed by the dealer. (Cam, adjustable push rods, ignition module, carb, air cleaner and mufflers.) I was going to get a black FLHTCU, but I really liked the looks of the low mileage '88 FLHTC. The price of the '88 plus all of the mods that I wanted to do was about the same price as a new stock Ultra.

Everything that I added or changed was done in 1990. So everything is period correct including my blue with yellow letters personalized California license plate. I do all of my own work on all of my toys.

This bike is a keeper.

After lurking in the Touring forum here, and seeing very few posts that were relevant to my early model, I decided that the Evo forum would have the most information relating to my bike.

I am a member of dozens of forums and mainly lurk. But here I need to have five posts before I can view attachments. So this is my first post.

Here are a few pictures that a friend took when we went for a ride on July Fourth 2012. That is his '08 Dyna that is partially visible. I rarely see anything other than Twin Cams on the road. I find this surprising.

Thank you.

I always find it amusing when someone says, "Nice bike, is it brand new?"

And then the look on their face when I tell them what year it is.

Thank you.

Your '90 FLHTCU is the exact bike that I was originally going to buy.

Very nice.
